Professionalism

Creating work with Professionalism

I always make sure the backs are "finished" in that I have my signature, title and my studio label with addresses and contact information etc. It makes for a nice professional presentation and can really bring in more sales down the road. If the design allows I always sign the front as well. I use a very fine typed indelible ink pen.

If for some reason I have been messy with washes on the back side I will paint over that with black or white gesso just to keep the presentation clean. If for any reason there is buckling due to washes etc, I'll also make sure that the piece is flattened. Painting the back with gesso and sealing also help with stabilizing works on paper.

Overall, I make sure to produce as professional a presentation as possible. How would I want a gallery to see this? The same should hold true for any buyer of the work as well. Just because we are selling online or on eBay doesn't mean it should be as sharp as possible.
